National Heroe's Day is a holiday observed on the third Monday in Ocober. This is a celebration of the island's seven National Heroes and on this day many Jamaican are given awards for oustanding services. This day marks one of enduring strength and pride of the resilience of the Jamaican people. The National Heroes emerged when Jamaica was under the colonial power of the British Crown and consists of six National Heroes and one Heroine: Marcus Mossiah Garvey, Sir Alexander Bustamante, Norman Washington Manley, Samuel Sharpe, Paul Bogle, George William Gordon and Nanny of the Maroons. Oh, no, Robert Nesta Marley is not a Jamaican National Hero. This day is also celebrated with jerked food, traditional music and dancing, playing football, cricket and dominoes.
